Abstract

Araticum (Annona crassiflola Mart.) is a native fruit of the Brazilian Cerrado and is considered the Annonaceae with the most significant prominence and importance in this biome. The araticum pulp is characterized by its great nutritional richness and being rich in bioactive compounds that benefit human health. In addition, the pulp has excellent sensory characteristics that favor acceptance and purchase intention by the consumer. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the chemical compounds present in araticum pulp for its potential use. The fruits were collected in Felixlândia - MG in March 2020. Pulping was performed manually, and the pulp was used to produce methanol extracts (1 g of pulp/8 mL of methanol). The analyzes were carried out using the technique of mass spectrometry with ambient paper spray ionization. The identification attempt was performed based on literature data. Several compounds belonging to different chemical classes were listed in the pulp, such as rutin and quercetin-O-pentosyl-hexoside, which are flavonoids present in food and are associated with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Some alkaloids such as anonain and roemerin were also identified. These compounds are reported in the literature related to antiplasmodic and anticancer activity. Another compound identified was corepoxylone belonging to the class of acetogenins, which has anticancer and anthelmintic properties. Therefore, it is noticeable that the compounds presented in this study demonstrate the potential use of araticum pulp in the food industry, aiming to add value and expand the production of the pulp and other products that may be generated from it.
