Abstract

In an increasingly competitive market, companies must strive to outperform their competitors. Hence, organizations must carry out effective project portfolio management to achieve strategic benefits for their organizations and add value to customers. Project portfolio selection is crucial in this process, and the interdependencies between projects add complexity to its activities. Nevertheless, it is relevant to incorporate these relationships into the model, given the possibility of seizing opportunities and improving resource management. This paper describes a systematic literature review on project portfolio selection with interdependencies. We covered the following topics regarding portfolio selection considering interdependencies between projects: terminology applied in project relationships, main approaches, and application scenarios, among others. Based on our results, we present promising research trends for future research regarding this topic and to improve project portfolio selection amongst practitioners in organizations.
