Abstract

In this paper, we propose the application of a Multi-Parent Biased Random-Key Genetic Algorithms in the solution of an interesting nonlinear and non-convex backpack problem, where the objective function and the constraints are separable functions. A set of instances from the literature was selected for the presentation of the computational results. We present an efficient local search strategy in association with the adopted metaheuristic. New lower limits were obtained for most instances, demonstrating the potential of the combination used.
