Abstract

To facilitate the access and integration of INPE’s environmental data, we introduce the Python package pyinpe, which provides the ability to query both DETER and Queimadas databases. This includes temporal and spatial filters, fostering the reproducibility and replicability of environmental analyses. The returned object is a geopandas.GeoDataFrame, which is adequate for manipulating geospatial data and performing spatial operations. In the use cases, a risk surface is estimated as the ratio of fire density to deforestation alerts density in August of 2021 in the Matopiba region, Brazil, and the spatiotemporal distribution of fires and alerts at Serra do Tabatinga Environmental Protection Area from 2018 to 2021 is also analyzed.
