Abstract

This study presents a methodological approach for estimating urban addresses in the Brazilian Legal Amazon using road segment databases from the 2010 and 2022 censuses. The analysis reveals a heterogeneous increase in the number of distinct addresses, with notable spatial distribution variations. While cities like Manaus exhibited a decrease in residential addresses, others like Sinop showed a significant increase in residential addresses, particularly along major circulation routes. The results underscore the importance of disaggregating data by address types to facilitate more targeted analyses. Challenges remain, including the need to incorporate postal codes for disambiguation and to adapt methods for rural areas. Furthermore, establishing objective criteria for address estimation and utilizing auxiliary data may enhance accuracy. The findings contribute to understanding urbanization dynamics and provide a foundation for further studies on urban land use changes in Brazil.
