Abstract

In recent years, anthropogenic fires have significantly devastated the Pantanal biome, destroying native vegetation and agricultural areas. For such context, this study aimed to identify areas with a high risk of fire to establish priority municipalities for fire prevention and firefighting actions in the Pantanal biome. For this purpose, the differenced normalized burn rate (ΔNBR) index was used. Using only the highest severity classes moderate-low severity (MLS), moderate-high severity (MHS) and high severity (HS), where these were renamed moderate, elevated and high, the remaining classes were renamed low. The areas with the highest probability of fire recurrence are about the municipalities of Cáceres, Poconé in Mato Grosso (MT), as well as Corumbá, in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS).
