Abstract

The conversion of forestlands into pasturelands and croplands embraces deforestation as the main route. Given this, the intuitive analysis of time series can improve land use and land cover (LULC) monitoring initiatives. Time series derived from the stacking of images and extraction of spectral indices enable us to monitor LULC conversion. This process has a high operational cost, which has been overcome by web platforms, such as SATVeg, from EMBRAPA. This study sought to use the SATVeg to characterize the municipality of Porto Velho (RO), which is experiencing high LULC conversion. The methodological procedures used include visual identification based on patterns and interpretation keys, spatialization of samples, and extraction of time series based on images from 2024. In the end, it was identified that the municipality has a low potential for agricultural crop production, also containing several deforestation scars together with several forest fragments amidst pasture areas.
