Abstract

This study aims to use digital image processing techniques,
from literature, to analyse wildfires in the natural
conservation area of Brasília National Park (Parque
Nacional de Brasília - PNB), with emphasis on the particular
severe wildfire of September 2022. We used techniques
from literature analysing wildfires on PNB, to identify zones
with high fire ignition risk by assessing vegetation health
through satellite imagery analysis and comparing vegetation
spectral indices. Then we compare it with fire spots data from
Queimadas to find the location where the wildifres started,
then use this information to plan mitigation strategies against
future fires. Using this methodology to investigate the
September 2022 wildfire in Brasília National Park, focusing
on pinpointing its origin and understanding its spread. We
managed to confirm the wildfire started within 2 km of the
designed high risk areas.
