Abstract

The principles of Lean Manufacturing applied to administrative environments aim to eliminate waste and enhance efficiency. Despite the benefits, its adoption faces resistance, especially due to the difficulty in visualizing the impacts of the changes. To overcome this problem, this study proposes the integration of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) with Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to evaluate the application of lean thinking in the School Records sector of a Federal Institute. Two administrative processes with high crossing times or lead times were modeled using the FlexSim software. The simulations allowed comparing the current and future states, showing reductions of 93% and 47% in lead times. Therefore, these results indicate significant performance gains and demonstrate that the integration between DES and VSM is effective in anticipating the effects of improvements and reducing resistance to implementation, reinforcing the potential of applying Lean Thinking in administrative environments.
