Abstract

The city of Mossoró/RN faces a series of urban problems caused by population growth and, consequently, the intensification of vehicles in the road system, which often leads to traffic accidents. Considering these adversities, this work proposes a multicriteria group decision support model for identifying the most critical urban areas for the occurrence of accidents. The proposed model comprises a set of steps to be followed in order to obtain a ranking of the city's avenues and neighborhoods, based on the positions expressed by each decision-maker using the PROMETHEE II method. The use of multicriteria methods to support decision-making is of great relevance for public managers, since the results provide a more consistent assessment in order to prioritize the most critical sections.
