Abstract

The slab yard in an integrated steel mill is crucial for the efficient flow of production. This work presents a study of the dynamic management of the plate yard, combining simulation and operational rules to optimize the process. In this proposal, a method, found in the literature, for the allocation of plates in the steel mill yard was improved with the use of a fuzzy controller via Mamdani inference. Input variables, such as yard occupancy and plate sequencing, were fuzzified, defining fuzzy sets for each linguistic variable used. In this particular case, system rules have been defined to map the combinations of input variables to the board allocation action. In the experiments, using the 3S-SIM simulator, we demonstrated that the performance of the decision method found in the literature can be improved with the proposed fuzzy controller.
