Abstract

The modern consumer has increasingly demanded transparency, objectivity and security regarding the labeling of food products. To know the meaning of the label is fundamental for consumer decision. We aimed to carry out a comparative analysis between six different brands of soft drink, guarana flavor, commercialized at Manaus, AM, Brazil. The label samples were listed sequentially, the data were entered into a spreadsheet, where the compliance and non-compliance of mandatory items were verified in accordance with Brazilian legislation (Decree 6.781/2009 and RDC 429/2020). The six brands had divergences regarding the RDC 429/2020. In the item "Table is close to the list of ingredients" two brands are in agreement and 4 brands were not. In the item "Ingredient Quantity/portion" 1 brand was in agreement, 4 brands diverge and 1 brand partially meets. In the item "MAP Registration" 4 brands were in accordance with the requirement of the resolution and 2 brands were not in compliance. For "table with white background" 1 brand have shown to be in the new required standard and 5 brands were not within the specification of the new requirements. For the "quantity per serving every 100g/", none of them are in accordance to RDC 429/2020. As soft drinks are products with a high amount of sugar, brands should be aware of legislation for its label. It is concluded that despite the wide variety of soft drinks on the market, there are few regularized regarding the labeling. The lack of information can mislead the consumer, harm the quality of the product, in addition to indicating, lack of inspection by Organs responsible.
