Presentation text of the PhD meeting

PhD & Early Career Meetings

Early Career Researchers (roughly defined as those awarded PhD no more than five years ago) and PhD candidates are invited to join the special sessions promoted by XX IOSTE Symposium 2022. Considering both groups will be the future of the community of science education and of IOSTE, this opportunity will provide a dedicated space to discuss critically the future of research in science education, the challenges and opportunities for early-career researchers and PhD students, and to meet and greet colleagues, get to know each other studies’ and possibly build future collaborations.

Organization:

The PhD & Early Career Meeting of XX IOSTE Symposium 2022 was designed to take place in three moments. The first moment will be held virtually (through the Zoom platform) to congregate participants (regardless of the modality of inscription). The second one will take place on the second day of the symposium, and the third part will be carried out both asynchronously and in a short meeting in the Zoom platform.

Part 1: In the first 2-hour session, to be held virtually through Zoom Platform, there will be a round table with 2 experienced researchers. They will talk about the future of science education research, the main concerns and trends of the Science Education community, strategies and tips to succeed in career and perspectives of aligning research with progressist paths as those defended by IOSTE. There will be time for the public to raise questions to the panellists, to know each other in small group conversations and also time for open conversations with panellists and others in the audience.

Part 2: This 2-hour session will be held in-person, during the second day of the event. In this opportunity, the participants will have up to three minutes to present their projects and one or two provocative questions that arise from their research. After that, there will be time for open conversations between the participants. This session will have a limited number of participants. Those who register will receive orientations on how to prepare their presentations and will need to send them in advance to the organizing committee.

Part 3: After the event, PhD candidates interested in constructing a space for dialogue for PhD students and Early Career Researchers inside IOSTE Community will be invited to attend a Zoom meeting to discuss possibilities for interacting formally with the IOSTE governing board.
