Effect of the use of biochar and efficient microorganisms on the development of bell pepper crops.

Abstract

Biochar is a soil conditioner of great agronomic importance, known for improving chemical, physical, and biological properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of micronized biochar combined with Effective Microorganisms (EM) on bell pepper cultivation. A completely randomized design in a factorial scheme (3 x 3) was used, totaling 9 treatments (dose combinations) with 3 replications. The plants received different doses of the inputs (EM: 0, 200, 400 L.ha-1; Biochar: 0, 1500, 3000 kg.ha-1). Agronomic evaluations were performed 72 days after planting, analyzing shoot fresh weight (PFPA), shoot dry weight (PSPA), root fresh weight (PFR), and root volume (VR). The results demonstrated that the inputs promoted plant growth, with biochar standing out as it was very efficient in increasing root volume, especially at a dose of 1500 kg.ha-1. It is concluded that the application of micronized biochar is an effective strategy to promote the development of bell pepper crops.
