The International Symposium on Genetics and Breeding (SIGM) is a prominent event organized by the Study Group on Genetics and Breeding (GenMelhor) of the Federal University of Viçosa - UFV and the Graduate Program in Genetics and Breeding (PPGGM). The event has been in existence for over a decade and every year features the participation of renowned national and international speakers in various areas of Genetics and Breeding. SIGM is recognized by other national and international universities working on similar topics in Genetics and Breeding, as well as by departments in related fields such as Agronomy, General Biology, Statistics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Phytopathology, Forestry Engineering, Computer Science, Agricultural Engineering, Microbiology, Entomology, Animal Biology, Veterinary Medicine, and Animal Science. Given the multidisciplinary context in which geneticists and breeders operate, it is evident that current and future professionals need to be aware of the main tools and technological and scientific advances that have occurred to advance the major frontiers of genetics and breeding in the modern era, within the fields of biotechnology, bioinformatics, and experimental statistics.
