USE OF PORT OPERATIONS SIMULATORS IN OPERATOR TRAINING: A MULTICRITERIA DECISION-MAKING APPROACH

Abstract

This paper proposes a multicriteria decision-making structure for the evaluation of port operations simulators, based on six relevant criteria: immersiveness, customization, maintainability, ease of use, likelihood and cost. Two types of simulators were evaluated, the multidisplay simulator and the virtual reality (VR) simulator, using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. The results obtained indicated that the multidisplay simulator presented better performance against the criteria, being recommended for the training of port operators. This approach allowed the analysis of simulator modalities demonstrating the efficiency of the AHP method in complex decision-making situations. The conclusions of this article may be the basis for future work that explores new criteria, including aspects of user experience and perception, as well as using other Multicriteria Decision Support (AMD) Methods to improve the decision-making process.
