Abstract

This study proposes the use of heuristic procedures to produce packing plans for the Rectangular Packing Problem, aiming to produce a regular package with small
rectangular items in a single rectangular stock sheet. This problem has great industrial importance, being very useful for storage, logistics and transportation.
It is also useful for the cutting industry, especially for cutting plates or sheets. The procedures developed are inspired by works in the literature. The results showed typical occupancy rates above 95% in a dataset from the literature.
