Abstract

Scheduling a timetable is a task performed annually by administrators at many universities — both public and private. At many of these institutions, this task is performed manually, without the support of a tool that allows for automation. This article proposes two integer programming formulations for defining the timetable for courses at ENCE (Escola Nacional de Ciências Estatísticas), which differ in their objective function and constraints. The formulations were implemented and tested in three solvers, considering scenarios that reflect the reality of ENCE's timetable. After evaluating their effectiveness and efficiency, through the presentation of a set of results and analyses, it was concluded that these formulations constitute a good alternative for solving the problem.
