Abstract

This study estimates the efficiency of public state high schools in Espírito Santo in 2023, identifying factors that affect performance. Traditionally, school evaluation focuses on indicators of effectiveness, ignoring resource allocation. This work adopts a two-stage approach, combining Data Envelopment Analysis and a Tobit model to estimate the relative efficiency of schools, considering multiple inputs and outputs. Additionally, it investigates how environmental factors - sense of security, family support, expectations, etc. - influence efficiency. The research used data from the 2023 School Census, Paebes 2023, and questionnaires.
The average observed efficiency was 0.85, with a maximum efficiency of 0.95 and a minimum of 0.69. Additionally, the results also point to a positive correlation between efficiency and factors such as access to books, school climate, and student expectations.
