Abstract

This paper describes a comparative analysis of two conceptually distinct discrete event simulation tools (2D and 3D), applied to the same truck flow problem in an area of receipt and processing of inputs of an industrial plant. While the literature describes techniques for comparing simulation software focusing on its functionalities, the present article used an unprecedented approach to compare the times spent in the development of the models and in the execution of the simulations in each tool. It was found that the two models produced, equivalent in structure and output results, had equivalent simulation execution times. The 2D tool required a development time of about 2/3 of the time required by the 3D tool.
