Abstract

The Brazilian metallurgical industry may face operational challenges that require sophisticated analytical tools to aid decision-making. This work presents the simulation of a productive system of loading, packaging and shipping in a metallurgical company in Minas Gerais, using the open-source software JaamSim. The model was built to scale with a three-dimensional environment, considering loader, bagging  scales and forklift. The simulation experiment made it possible to identify the weighing process being the bottleneck in the current scenario with two scales. From this verification, a third scale was added to the model, which resulted in an increase in daily production from 932 to 1,110 bags per day, that is, the equivalent of an increase from 27 trucks shipped to 32. The result demonstrates the technical feasibility of JaamSim as a competitive alternative to commercial tools for several companies from the most diverse sectors that need to use simulation.
