Water is an essential resource for life, and it is delivered to the population through water supply networks. Hydraulic pumps are used to collect and transport water, which incurs high electricity costs. Due to dynamic electricity rates, it is necessary to plan pump operations to avoid running them during times when electricity is most expensive. This study proposes linearization strategies for a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model to minimize energy costs associated with the use of hydraulic pumps in water distribution networks. Initial computational numerical tests were performed using a network widely used in the literature, where the solutions were simulated and validated using the EPANET hydraulic simulation software. The results obtained demonstrate the practical feasibility of applying the solutions obtained.
