Aqueous biphasic systems (ABS) composed of amphiphilic block copolymers
provide a versatile and sustainable platform for the extraction and encapsulation of
therapeutic biomolecules. Under suitable conditions, these amphiphilic components
can self-assemble into polymeric micelles, forming nanostructured domains capable
of solubilizing, concentrating, and stabilizing bioactive compounds. This integrated
strategy combines the advantages of ABS, such as low interfacial tension,
biocompatibility, and mild operational conditions, with the encapsulation and
protective capabilities of micellar structures. As a result, these systems enable the
efficient separation, purification, and stabilization of biomolecules, offering significant
potential for applications in pharmaceutical formulation, bioseparation, and targeted
drug delivery.
