The SBBf has been holding annual national congresses since 1977, and the most recent edition will be held in São Paulo (SP). The first meeting of the Society was held in December 1976, at the CCS of UFRJ, and the book of abstracts of the papers presented was published by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. From then on, the SBBf began to meet annually, and its management was transferred, with the elected boards, to Belo Horizonte (MG), Porto Alegre (RS), São Paulo (SP), Aracaju (SE), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Ribeirão Preto (SP) and again Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and, currently, Belo Horizonte (MG).
