Abstract

In the classic cutting stock problem, one aims to determine which cutting patterns should be used (and how many times) in order to minimize the use of raw material to completely fulfill a portfolio of product orders. To solve this problem, the Simplex method with column generation can be used. However, in some real situations, there are constraints on the maximum material waste in the cutting patterns that require adaptations to the problem so that column generation can be used. This work studies a real case at Klabin S.A. where this type of additional constraint is present and shows how these adaptations can be made to enable the application of the method.
