Cingulate (Xenarthra), stand out for their carapace composed of osteoderms. During the Quaternary, lineages of glyptodonts and papantherias, including the genus Holmesina, were striking components of the megafauna. The present study aims to understand the preservation processes, histological development and possible alterations caused by parasitism or postmortem events. The analyzed samples (n=19) were collected in regions of paleontological relevance of Group One, Salitre Formation. After screening and photographic recording, the samples were stabilized with PARALOID-B72 and petrographic slides were made from three osteoderms, in cross-sectional, longitudinal and sagittal sections
