Abstract

In Brazil, public organizations must adopt measures to systematize risk management practices linked to the organizational strategy. However, the effective implementation of such practices faces a series of challenges and setbacks. With the aim of overcoming them and improving risk management at the Federal University of Itajubá, a 10-step framework, with guidelines, principles, structure and specific criteria, was designed and implemented. There is initial evidence that its implementation resulted in: an improvement in institutional risk management, a 25% decrease in the level of risks identified in the cycle and a 12.5% drop in the overall risk level. The framework received 5th place among the 19 proposals submitted to the 1st MEC Good Practices Competition. Recommendations are made at each stage to enable its adaptation and replication in interested institutions.
