About

Comunicon – the International Congress on Communication and Consumption – is an initiative of PPGCOM ESPM. Over the past decade, it has established itself as a pluralistic space for dialogue on the field of communication and consumption in its multiple interfaces. In 2025, in a hybrid format, we will maintain the Meeting of Graduate and Undergraduate Working Groups.

The theme of the event will be:

ECHOES OF CONSUMPTION: COMMUNICATION, ECOLOGIES, AND DISCONNECTION

COMUNICON 2025 proposes a debate on the multiple circuits of consumption in contemporary times, reflecting on its resonances in communication, ecologies, and practices of disconnection (digital, technological, labor, media, and/or market). In a hyperconnected society, in which media and material consumption are intertwined with environmental and sociocultural urgencies, it becomes essential to analyze the impacts of these dynamics on the construction of subjectivities, the production of discourses, memories, and forms of belonging and subversion.

Faced with the growing commodification of attention and the ubiquity of digital consumption, the congress invites researchers to diagnose these scenarios and explore strategies of resistance and reconfiguration of these practices. How do media ecologies shape the consumption experience? What discourses emerge around the need for disconnection? In what ways can consumption practices be rethought in a context of exhaustion and ecological transition? These and other questions will be at the center of our discussions.
