Resumo

The passage rate (PR) was influenced by the feed digestion in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). In this way, the research aimed to determine the transit time and the rate of passage of the cellulose in the gastrointestinal tract of quails by the radiographic method. For the ingredient transit evaluation in GIT, four birds were used. The nutrient used to evaluate the GIT transit time was cellulose the animal model used was the Japanese quail. Compost suspensions were prepared by 70% radiographic indicator, 28% ingredient and 2% saline solution. The mixture was injected directly into the animal esophagus with a gavage needle, which allows feeding and dosing without affect the animals. The birds received 2.5 ml of suspension. The passage of the ingredients in the GIT was followed by radiographic exams. The PR was determined by the observation of the first excreta after the mixture administration. To find the total retention time, the birds were sedated and radiographed until the total indicator elimination in the excreta. Cellulose transit time and its total retention time was 24.5 minutes and 14.31 hours, respectively.
