Resumo

There are relatively simple statistical tools that can be implemented in common programs, which can help to classify animals more quickly. The aim of this study was to apply three different forms of the Frequency Distribution Table in comparison to the traditional method of indicating weight performance. The weight performance data of 67 cattle was collected from weaning, at 210 days, to post-yearling, at 450 days of age. The measured k values were 4, 6, 7 and 8, respectively, through: Conventional (mean deviations), Sturges Rule (Logarithm), 2^k rule and Square Root Rule. The treatments with the different frequency distribution tables increased the number of groups of animals, giving a better description of the performances. It is understood that the producer has a better control over the groups of animals, contributing to the decision-making process regarding the planning of the next stages of production. The use of the Frequency Distribution Table, in which the number of classes is defined by the "square root rule", is projected as more appropriate to rank the performance of animals that make up small data lists.
