Resumo

The objective of this work was to study the growth pattern, forage production, daily growth rate and tiller decapitation, in three successive growths, with a 21 days lag and with cut ages varying from 21 to 49 days. A randomized experimental block was used in a split plots design with four replications, with the growths period being allocated in the plots and the cut ages in the split plots. The cut evaluations were performed at 10 cm high, using a chopper and a metal square. For the dry matter determination, the samples were identified, weighed and placed in a forced ventilation oven at 65ºC during 72 hours to be pre-dried. In each split plot cutting, five days after the evaluation cut an area referring to the square was chosen, where the total number of tillers that regrown was recorded. By difference we discovered the amount of tillers that were decapitated. Forage production is high when the plants increasing age. The growth 3, started at the end of February, is not a good date for deffering this grass, for using during dry period. Aiming at forage productivity, the best use period should occur between 21 and 35 days of age.
