Resumo

The use of hormones for the development of broiler chickens is a popular belief among people of different age groups, and social grade. The objective of this study was to evaluate what people think and at the same time demystify the use of hormones in poultry through technical presentations. The study was carried out in public schools of Paraná and São Paulo, through the application of a questionnaire with questions of multiple choices for volunteers with an age range between 13 and 63 years. Later, a brief presentation was made on the creation of broiler chickens explaining the reasons for the rapid growth. The results obtained demonstrate that although 98 percent of the interviewees consume chicken meat weekly, due to taste and preference, 60 percent of the interviewees believe that there is the use of hormones for the development of broilers in the current production systems, and the main method of supply through feed, being that the use of hormones was prohibited in June of 2004.
