CONSUMO DE CARNE OVINA E CAPRINA EM SANTARÉM-PA

The objective was to evaluate the consumption of goats and sheep in the municipality of Santarém-Pará. Fifty questionnaires containing questions related to preference for meat products, frequency of consumption and limitation of consumption of sheep and goat meat were applied. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (52.6%), aged between 30 and 80 years (48.8%), monthly income 1 to 2 minimum wages (34%) and complete secondary education (41 %). 46.4% of the interviewees consume meat, among those who do not consume, claimed that it is not available in the market (65%). Thus, it is concluded that sheep and goats are not consumed enough by the population of Santarém-Pa. However, incentives should be made through the dissemination of the nutritional quality of the meat and the production chain, in order to contribute to the establishment of the consumption habit of these meat products.
