Resumo

The objective of this work was to characterize meat consumption and the consumer profile of chicken meat in the city of Presidente Medici, RO. Fifty people living in the city of Presidente Médici were interviewed using a closed questionnaire. The questionnaires were applied in supermarkets and free markets. Then, the data were statistically analyzed, being obtained relative and absolute frequency for each question. The results showed that chicken meat is the third most preferred of consumers, the whole chicken being more acceptable by them. Many of the respondents opt for hickory chicken, and claim to be healthier by not having hormone and antibiotic application, since 94% of respondents believe that hormone is used in chicken production. It’s concluded that the city needs an incentive for the consumption of chicken meat, and that the question of the use of hormone in chicken production should be demystified, to show the true version of the evolution of genetics in chicken rearing.
