Resumo

The objective of the present study was to evaluate if the main breed patterns used as tools in the selection and targeting crosses of Beagle and German Spitz dogs in the Metropolitan region of Porto Alegre/RS are in agreement with the International Cynological Federation (ICF). Factors such as gender, leght of the head/leght of the muzzle ratio, withers height, body length, muzzle coloring, coat coloring and eye color were evaluated. All Beagle dogs evaluated were in accordance with the parameters established by the breed manual. The German Spitz dogs were also in agreement with the breed manual, but one of the evaluated females presented a slight difference in the leght of the head/leght of the muzzle ratio. According to the results the selection criteria of breeders from the Metropolitan region of Porto Alegre for Beagle and German Spitz dogs are in compliance with the parameters established by the ICF.
