"From Textbooks to Earbuds: Engaging Graduate Students in Qualitative Research through Podcasts"

Introduction:

This presentation explores the innovative use of podcasts in qualitative research education, focusing on the "Down to Earth Qualitative Research" podcast. Created to address graduate students' persistent questions, this educational tool aims to demystify complex concepts in an accessible format. The podcast simplifies critical topics such as selecting research paradigms, formulating research questions, choosing data collection methods, analyzing data, and writing qualitative findings.

Goals and Methods:

The initiative aimed to complement traditional reading materials with an auditory learning tool that fosters a deeper connection with the material and enhances students' confidence in conducting qualitative research. Each episode in the 12-part series addresses common student questions, breaking down complex ideas into digestible content. The podcast was shared with students, colleagues, and early-career researchers, expanding its reach within the academic community. A second season featuring guest speakers broadened the conversation by presenting various qualitative research traditions.

Results:

The podcast has received thousands of listens, with students reporting significant improvements in their understanding of qualitative research and increased confidence in their abilities. Its success led to the formation of a qualitative research forum at the creators' university, bringing together researchers from multiple faculties. The podcast has also gained popularity among early-career researchers seeking to enhance their methodological expertise.
