Abstract

Introduction: This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic interplay between Ergonomics, Design Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) through a systematic literature review (SLR). In our rapidly evolving world, the convergence of Ergonomics and Design Innovation assumes a critical role, promising to create products and spaces cherished for their comfort, usability, and captivating aesthetics.
Goals and Methods: The research seeks to unravel the intricate relationships among Ergonomics, Design Thinking, AI, and ML. Employing Elicit as an assistant, the initial step involves locating academic papers that elucidate the connections between these disciplines based on the question: “Briefly, what is the relationship among "Ergonomics, design thinking, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML)"?”. The process generates a CSV file summarizing pertinent information from the identified documents. Subsequent to the team's review and selection of the most relevant papers, a Large Language Model (LLM)-enabled platform is employed to extract key points and outcomes from each scientific paper.
Results: The ongoing analysis underscores the pivotal roles played by Ergonomics and Design Thinking in the integration of AI and ML within the realm of product design. The findings highlight the enduring significance of considering user experiences, aesthetics, and the evolving landscape of design practices within the AI/ML framework.
Conclusions: This research contributes to a nuanced understanding of the indispensable roles played by Ergonomics and Design Thinking in the synergy with AI/ML for product design. It emphasizes their collective impact on shaping user experiences and aesthetics, reaffirming their enduring importance as design practices continue to adapt to the dynamic technological landscape. Despite potential limitations associated with contemporary web crawlers, the study highlights the resilience and lasting relevance of these disciplines in the ever-evolving field of design.
