Abstract

This research seeks to investigate the impacts of science communication on informal learning through a qualitative case study approach. Science communication plays a crucial role in disseminating scientific knowledge to the general public and promoting informal learning. The researcher endeavors to shed light on the effectiveness of different science communication strategies and their influence on informal learning experiences.
Introduction: Science communication, involving practices such as science writing, journalism, public lectures, museums, and social media, bridges the gap between the scientific community and the general public. Informal learning, driven by personal interest and outside formal education, is vital for public understanding of science. However, empirical research on the impact of science communication on informal learning is lacking, despite its growing significance in promoting science literacy.
Methods: This research will employ a qualitative case study approach, focusing on selected science communication initiatives and their influence on informal learning. The case studies will involve in-depth interviews, content analysis of communication materials, and participant observations to gather rich, context-specific data. Data will be analyzed using COSTAQDA software through thematic analysis to identify patterns, themes, and insights.
Significance of Research: Understanding the impacts of science communication on informal learning is of paramount importance for science educators, communicators, and policymakers. This knowledge can inform the development of more effective science communication strategies and enhance the public's engagement with science.
Expected Results: The researcher anticipates that this research will reveal various aspects of how science communication influences informal learning, including the role of visual aids, narrative techniques, and engagement on social media platforms. The researcher expects to identify factors that contribute to effective science communication, as well as potential barriers to informal learning.
