Influence of the previous cycling experience on psychophysiological parameters obtained from perceived exertion scales during aerobic and anaerobic tests
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the previous cycling experience on psychophysiological parameters obtained from aerobic and anaerobic evaluation. Ten healthly men subjects were divided in two groups according to the previous experience in cycling exercise (Group 1-G1- ; Group 2-G2). All evaluations were conducted in laboratorial condition in cycle ergometer (Monark 894e). The incremental test (aerobic evaluation) began with 50 W workloads, with increment of 25 at each 3-min stages and cadence of 80 rpm. The Wingate Anaerobic Test (Anaerobic evaluation) was conducted under 30-s effort against workload of 7,5% of body mass. The rate of perceived exertion scales of Borg (RPE) and Foster et al, (2001), and also the Estimated Time Limit scale (ETL) proposed by Garcin et al.,(2012), were considered for psychophysiological parameters analysis. In summary, while differences were obtained in terms of anaerobic threshold intensity (G1 =108,6±18,6 W; G2=149,0±14,9 W; P=0,007), peak power (G1 =693,4±170,7; G2=1012,6±214,6; P= 0,015) and mean power (G1 =429,4±64,0; G2=561,9±74,9; P=0,014), we do not observed modification for the scales scores during the aerobic and anaerobic evaluations. In conclusion, while the psychophysiological parameters were not affected by the previous cycling experience, higher levels of aerobic capacity and anaerobic power were observed for the experienced individuals
