Effectiveness of aluminum oxide sandblasting, plasma application and their combination on the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia

The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength (BS) of resin cement to two zirconias, after sandblasting with aluminum oxide abrasive particles followed by non-thermal plasma treatment. Sixty Lava and 60 Katana zirconia plates were cut and randomly divided among eight groups. For all plates, two resin cement cylinders were prepared on zirconia surfaces using a silicone mold and tested. The use of plasma did not increase the BS, but sandblasting yielded higher BS to zirconias.
