We demonstrated the development of a simple application-level protocol using a distributed system planned to remotely supervise a set of sensors connected to a TCP/IP network. Two software modules were written in Java: the client, that simulates the sensors, and the server, that monitors remote sensors in a central locality. Our protocol was designed with the help of finite automata concepts, implemented in Java, and proved to work correctly over the Internet.
