Abstract

In Mexico 30% of active fire are detected in agriculture areas, in others countries report until 80%. For Mexico 28% of active fire detected in vegetation are located in buffer of 500 m near agriculture areas. Information generated with data from Early Warning Forest Fire System to Mexico and Centro America.
These data reinforces the initiative to evaluate the participation of fire in land cover changes. Question such as: what are the burned areas that after event have changed land cover? And how many have remained with the same? Or how much hectares are burned to change land cover?, are common. Monitoring land cover and burned areas identification are two main tools to give some answers to these questions.
The proposal is monitoring and analyze these two variables during five years in specific protected natural areas in Mexico, where anthropogenic activities, as agriculture, are restricted but persists. We expected generate information to help understand this phenomenon.
