INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Cancer is a public health problem with alarming socioeconomic impacts. The society lacks of information, especially about scientific research that has been developed. The Group for Research and Fight Against Cancer (PLUCCA), of extensionist nature and with a clear interface with research, has the goal to show to population the scientific projects carried out at UFU and other scientific articles published in high impact journals. PLUCCA helps in raising awareness and, above all, disseminating technical-scientific knowledge about cancer to the society in simple and accessible language. MATERIAL AND METHODS: a page was created on a social media with wide engagement for the dissemination of information. Contents were and are being presented to clarify the development of tumors, demystifying and solving common doubts that sometimes compromise the early diagnosis of these diseases. To gather a larger audience, the scientific language was adapted to the population and digital or graphic resources are explored. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: posts on the page @grupoplucca were and are being created by undergraduate students, Master's and Doctoral students from the Laboratory of Genetics and Biotechnology. To date, 92 posts were released with 345 followers including the academic community and the general public. The progression of reach was 3.9% in August 2021, in addition to more 25.2% interactions with the posted content compared to the previous month. Information about projects in progress, publications by the Laboratory and scientific articles published in high-impact journals were posted, all summarized in simple language, with the image of the article itself to demonstrated authorship and with didactic illustration developed by the group. Therefore, the PLUCCA group has become known for its intervention in society, mainly using digital media in the dissemination of science and technology in the fight against cancer.
