INTRODUCTION: The main cause of mortality in Brazil and globally today is related to cardiovascular pathologies, among which systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) stands out, a condition commonly asymptomatic but with extensive microvascular and macrovascular complications. In this sense, contemporary scientific research aims to obtain compounds that allow innovative therapeutic approaches regarding existing therapies, such as the extract from the native plant Fridericia platyphylla (EHFP), also known as "cervejinha do campo," "cipó-una," or "tintureiro," whose high content of flavonoids is linked to significant therapeutic relevance in experimental models. METHODS: Male rats of the species Rattus norvegicus, Wistar lineage, weighing between 250 - 300g, aged around 70 days, were used. An acute treatment with a single dose of the extract at 100 mg/kg was performed to evaluate its cardiovascular potential. After 60 minutes, the animals were anesthetized for hemodynamic parameter measurement and organ removal. All rats underwent a 30-day adaptation period, divided into two groups: Control (treated only with 0.1ml/kg water) and EHFP, treated with the studied extract. This study was approved by the Animal Ethics and Research Committee under protocol number 23115.013098/2020-73. RESULTS: The following parameters stood out for showing statistically significant differences: blood pressure, with an increase in diastolic pressure in the EHFP group; and the relative weight of the liver and spleen, which decreased when compared to the Control group. Other evaluated items - blood glucose, oxygen saturation, and temperature - did not show statistically relevant alterations. CONCLUSION: Overall, the results highlight the biological capacity of this plant species with cardiovascular potential for pressure alterations without dysfunction in other hemodynamic parameters. Therefore, these findings reinforce the scientific relevance of this natural product.
