INTRODUCTION: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are considered the most common worldwide, with an incidence rate of 40% to 60% in women, and are commonly found in hospitals and clinical practice. In Brazil, they are responsible for 35% to 45% of infections in hospital settings. The possibility of testing treatment alternatives by inducing UTI in laboratory animals through quality experimental models provides drug discovery, enabling a treatment with fewer side effects and lower cost. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify UTI induction techniques in experimental models with rodents, which are the most recurrent in the literature. METHOD: This is a literature review, carried out in March and April 2023, in the Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane databases, through the combination of the following MeSH descriptors: ("Urinary tract infection") AND ("Models, Animal" OR "Disease Models, Animal"). The guiding question was elaborated from the acronym PICO, resulting in the question: "What exists in the literature on experimental models in rodents for UTI?". Original articles, available in full and published in the last 10 years, were included, and those that did not meet the objective of the study, that were duplicates, performed in ex-vivo models and not applied to rats or mice were excluded. RESULTS: 57 studies met the eligibility criteria
