Resumo

Euterpe oleracea is commonly known as açai palm, and it is widely found in the Amazon estuary of Brazil. Extract of E. oleracea stone (EEOS) exhibits a broad spectrum of antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. The biological and pharmacological properties of natural polyphenols are associated with the central nervous system. However, little is known about EEOS in animal experiments. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the myorelaxant activity of EEOS in vivo. A total of 54 animals were used for behavioral tests and electromyographic recordings (27 animals for each experiment). After using the 300 mg/kg dose of EEOS intraperitoneally, a myorelaxant activity exhibited a lower frequency of contractility with an amplitude pattern of low and short duration characterized through decreased motility, myorelaxation, animal somnolence, and deep and rhythmic breathing, evaluated by electromyogram of gastrocnemius muscle and intercostal muscle compared to Diazepam. The results demonstrated that the bioactive compounds of EEOS exerted potent anxiolytic effects with sedative and myorelaxation in rats, which indicates an alternative route for açai stone valorization and its application in pharmaceutical fields.
