In 2022, the XXIII National Bioprocess Symposium – SINAFERM and the XVI Seminar on Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Biomasses – SHEB will join the XIV Brazilian Seminar on Enzyme Technology – ENZITEC.
SINAFERM is a consolidated event in the Bioprocess area for gathering several researchers, professionals, and students for a technical-scientific update in Industrial Biotechnology. Adding new approaches in Synthetic Biology and other frontier areas, allowing to trace the path of each link of the production chain necessary to establish a strong Bioeconomy, are part of the challenges of this edition. The use of Industrial Biotechnology as an essential multidisciplinary tool for developing technologies based on biomolecular and cellular processes, involving enzymatic technologies, sustainable chemistry, biochemical engineering, and bioinnovation allows the creation or modification of products and solving society’s needs.
The first edition of the event took place in São Paulo, in 1964, with the initial denomination of the National Fermentations Symposium, SINAFERM. It aggregated many interests, especially in alternative technologies for the utilization of biomass and biofuels, becoming together with SHEB the most significant event in bioprocesses in the country. The most recent editions of SINAFERM-SHEB took place in Fortaleza – CE (2015), Aracaju – SE (2017) and Uberlândia – MG (2019), with an average of 450 delegates and the presentation of 500 papers.
The Brazilian Enzyme Technology Seminar (ENZITEC) is a traditional event in the Enzymology area that has been held in Brazil since 1993. ENZITEC is the most important event in Enzymology held in the country. The previous editions of ENZITEC took place in Caxias do Sul (2016) and Florianopolis (2018), with an average of 300 participants.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ENZITEC returns to its birthplace, Rio de Janeiro to be held jointly with SINAFERM – SHEB and thus maximize the benefits to all participants with a more multidisciplinary and rich scientific and technological agenda. It is expected that this joint edition can provide to the participants’ fruitful discussions in the areas of industrial biotechnology, bioeconomy and bioinnovation, in addition to the renewal of the professional contact network.
