Affinity membranes enhance the selectivity of the separation. The goal of this work was to produce dense affinity membrane of polyvinylalcohol for protein adsorption by means of surface modification with glutaraldehyde and Coomassie blue. The results showed that the modification increased the adsorptive capacity of the membrane by 75% being possible to desorb 76% of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in mild conditions (pH 8.0 and 45°C). The modification route proposed showed potential to prepare affinity membranes. The authors thank UFMG, Capes, Fapemig and CNPq for their contribution in research.
