Abstract

This work report the development of a two phase system for the extraction of bixin. For this purpose, a novel system formed by mono, di, tri - ethylene glycol + polypropilene glycol 2000 (PPG 2000) + ethanol were developed. Aiming to increase the biphasic area of diagrams developed ionic liquid (1-buthyl-3-methylpyridinium chloride) was applied as adjuvant. The phase-forming ability was studied regarding ethylene glycol in different molecular weight. Decrease molecular weight induce higher biphasic region, additionally introduce IL as adjuvant into the system increases the biphasic region. In all systems studied, bixin migrate totality to the most hydrophobic phase (PPG 2000-rich phase), allowing to achieve a complete extraction of bixin in a single-step
