Abstract

The aim of this study was to maximize xylanase production by Aureobasidium pullulans CCT 1261 using rice bran as xylan source. The effects of temperature and concentrations of rice bran and (NH4)2SO4 on xylanase production were evaluated using a 2³ central composite design (CCD). Additional assays were performed varying the temperature and (NH4)2SO4 concentration. The highest xylanase production (82.2 U/mL) was obtained at 61.9 g/L of rice bran, 3.6 g/L of (NH4)2SO4, and 28°C. After maximization, the xylanase activity was 7 times higher than at the initial cultivation conditions. In conclusion, high activity xylanase could be produced more economically using a by-product of rice grain milling.
